Cactus are succulent plants with more than 1,700 species that have high water storage capacity. Mostly found and grown in arid and desert areas, some can be seen growing on cliffs and beaches. Cacti provide food and water for deer, forest rats, rabbits, turkeys, lizards and turtles; the cactus flowers and nectar provide food for birds and insects, which can be seen as indispensable in biodiversity.
